TUGGING DIARY
Hong Kong, 2021, 16’ 00, digital, German Premiere.

Tugging Diary holds a loose documentation of a footbridge in Hong Kong corresponding to the Hong Kong protest, also known as the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement, over a year between August 2019 to January 2021. As the rallies and strikes are often conducted without central leadership, both digital channels and physical spaces have become platforms to circulate information to a wider public. As time goes by, these materials are continuously altered, some are renewed, while the others are removed, covered with paint, or overlaid with other information.

DEAD END
USA, 2021, 14’ 00, super8, 16mm, digital projection, German Premiere.

Dead End is a fragmentary, cursorial and transient style film—edited in-camera—that seeks to present an unusual portrait of one of the world’s most recognisable cities, New York. The visual texture is augmented by graffiti, flags, industrial premises, dirty streets, traffic and construction sites: the full flux of the urban landscape. The aural scape is defined by field recordings of demonstrations, police sirens, traffic noise and subways commingling, allowing for marginal distinguishability. A framing style where architectural constructs are diagonally framed harks back to the 1920s Avant-garde city symphonies. A bridge to the past, through a fractured experience of the present. The film was shot in 2016.
